Jose Ascencion Garza, Sr., “Chon” entered the gates of Heaven on April 7, 2018. He was born on May 17, 1942, in Three Rivers, Texas to the late Juan and Luciana P. Garza. He retired from Alief I.S.D. after thirteen years of service. He loved to fish, hunt, shoot pool and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Adam, Juan, Andres and Joe Garza; and sister, Eva Garza.
He is survived by his daughter, Mereselda G. (Guillermo) Valdez of Houston, Texas; sons, Jose A. (Sami) Garza, Jr., and Pete Garza both of Houston, Texas and David C. (Erika) Garza of George West, Texas; sister, San Juanita Morin of Beeville, Texas; brothers, Cooper Garza of San Antonio, Texas and Jehovah Garza of George West, Texas; 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, Texas with a Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. there that evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at St. George Catholic Church with Father Ryszard Zielinski officiating. Interment will follow at Oakville Cemetery in Oakville, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Jose Garza, Jr., Pete Garza, David C. Garza, Adrian Garza, Thomas Guerrero, Jr., Joe Louis Moreno and Joe Decker.
Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters, Jennifer and Anna Garza; grandson, Monico Garza; son-in-law, Guillermo Valdez; and nieces, Joanne Lane, Jeannie Decker and Adrienne McDaniel.
