Amelia Syester

Amelia “May” (Martinez) Syester, 78, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, in Edinburg, Texas.

May was born August 2, 1946, in Beeville, to Delfino Martinez and Amanda (Gutierrez) Martinez. She was a graduate of A.C. Jones High School and in June 1971, she married her sweetheart, Clyde “Buddy” Syester.

Throughout her life, Amelia embraced her roles with love and dedication. As a Certified Nursing Assistant, she cared deeply for those in need, showcasing her compassionate nature while also balancing the responsibilities of being a devoted housewife and a cherished grandmother.

May was preceded in death by her parents, Delfino and Amanda Martinez; and a son, Brian Syester.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Clyde "Buddy" Syester; her sister, Sylvia Martinez; her sons, Kevin Syester and Jeffrey Syester; and seven grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Amelia also enjoyed a special bond with her best friend, Gloria Galbraith.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, January 3, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home followed by a Rosary at 1 o’clock.

The funeral service will be held that afternoon at 2 p.m. with Deacon Roger Rosenbaum officiating.

Burial of cremains will be held at a later date.
