Ancel D. Maddox Sr., 94, of Tuleta, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. Mr. Maddox was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Mabank to Lemuel and Ann (McManus) Maddox. He married Carrie Aileen Henderson in Lockhart on Nov. 21, 1936, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed cattle and horses and was a measurement tech for Mobil Oil & Gas. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Tuleta. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemuel and Ann Maddox; his wife, Carrie Maddox, on Nov. 4, 2004; and one sister, Helen Harris. Survivors include three sons, Ancel (Phyllis) Maddox Jr. of Houston, Mike (Sharon) Maddox of San Antonio and Dennis (Rita) Maddox of Tuleta; a daughter, Gloria (Weldon) Oetken of Houston; two sisters, Jerry James of California and Lemmie (Billy) Tiller of New Braunfels; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Galloway & Sons chapel. A memorial service followed there at 10 o'clock with Father Zenon Konowalek officiating. Musical selections included "On Eagles Wings" and "You Are Mine." Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
