Andrew Clyde Salge, age 80, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Tynan, Texas following a courageous battle with chronic kidney disease.
Andrew was born to H.H. and Willie Mae Salge on August 22, 1944, in Beeville, Texas and raised on the family farm near Tynan. He was a 1962 graduate of Skidmore-Tynan High School. After high school graduation, he attended Texas A&M University in College Station where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets Company E-2, also known as the “mascot company.” In his sophomore year, Andrew was selected as the mascot corporal caretaker of Reveille II, the endeared A&M mascot. Andrew was also a member of the esteemed Ross Volunteer Company as well as Company Commander of E-2. A proud Class of ’66 Aggie, Andrew earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. During the same time, he received his military commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.
On July 2, 1966, Andrew married his high school sweetheart, Arleen Marie Dieringer, at Peace Church in Tynan. They were blessed with two sons, Aaron Andrew Salge born in 1971 and Ashton David Salge born in 1975.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1969, Andrew returned to Tynan where he farmed and worked for the Bee County Co-Op from December 1969 until his retirement in September 2009.
Andrew was a proud father and grandfather who enjoyed family gatherings as well as being able to watch Aaron and Ashton as they participated and excelled in sports and other activities. He was an avid hunter and a devoted Aggie fan. Throughout the years, Andrew participated in and supported numerous community activities which included the Bee County Junior Livestock Show, Bee County Soil and Water Conservation Board, the Tynan Volunteer Fire Department, the Mathis Young Farmers and also served numerous years as council member with Peace Church..
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, H.H. and Willie Mae (Shiller) Salge; son, Aaron Andrew Salge; and his sister, Shirley Dunda.
Survivors include his beloved and devoted wife of 58 years, Arleen Marie (Dieringer) Salge; son, Ashton David Salge and his wife, Melissa (Jostes) Salge, and their daughter, Ella Jostes; daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann (Overlander) Salge; granddaughter, Jensen Maryee Salge; grandson Evan Kyle Salge; his brother, Robert Salge; and many longtime friends.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2024, at the Waldheim Cemetery in Tynan, Texas.
