Antonio "Poie" Zuniga

May 20, 1952 — March 28, 2025

George West

Antonio “Poie” Zuniga, 72, of George West, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 28, 2025.

Antonio was born in George West on May 20, 1952, to Vicente Zuniga Sr. and Maria (Reyna) Zuniga. He married Maria “Moie” Colunga on March 9, 1969. They were married 52 years. Antonio gave his life to Christ in 1981 and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a dreamer in life and instilled this in his children. He was a singer/songwriter; however, he only claimed to be a songwriter with more than 100 written songs.

Antonio was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but loved his wife just a little bit more. He lived a simple life; you could find him most days drinking his morning coffee, spending time with his family, practicing his songs, or working on his lawnmowers. He was always there to cheer you up with a smile, a story or his favorite joke. His laugh was contagious, and his words were wise. Antonio had hospitality like no other, gave all that he had, and always had an open door.

Antonio loved the Lord, he was humble, hardworking, and always put others first. With every “I love you” he would end with “Love you more.” His legacy lives on through his family and the wisdom he left behind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria and Vicente Zuniga Sr.; his beloved wife, Maria “Moie” Zuniga; brothers, Santos Zuniga, Raul Zuniga, Vicente Zuniga Jr. and Victor Zuniga; sisters, Ida Bernal, Eva Colunga, Ester Morin; and grandson, Antonio “Trey” Zuniga III.

Survivors include his daughter, Rose and husband Larry Millermon of Beeville; son, Juan and wife Becky Zuniga of George West; son Tony Zuniga of George West; daughter, Ruby and husband Greg Mendoza of George West; daughter, Priscilla and husband Baseem Gregg of San Antonio; daughter, Krystal and husband Orlando Mendoza of Corpus Christi; daughter Laury Brown of Corpus Christi; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, March 31, at the George West Church of Christ followed by the funeral service at 11 o’clock. Brother Michael Orr will officiate. Antonio will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Moie, in the George West Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Mendoza, Baseem Gregg, Larry Millermon III, John Edward Zuniga, Ryan Anthony Zuniga and Orlando Jaden Mendoza.

Ethan Mendoza, Samuel Mendoza and Knoble Gregg will serve as honorary pallbearers.
