Arthur Guy "A.G." Holt, Sr. of Beeville, Texas, died on March 28, 2016, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. He was born June 29, 1929, to the late Walter G. and Mary (Blackwell) Holt in Fayette County, Alabama. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. While stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, he met Elaine Mueller of Beeville, Texas. She was employed in San Antonio. They were married October 3, 1947. After completing his enlistment in the military, A.G. and Elaine moved to Beeville where A.G. began his career in road construction. He worked all over Texas. In 1957, he went to Liberia, West Africa, to help a close friend complete a road job. He had been hired by R.G. LeTourneau, who was well known for inventing many types of dirt moving equipment. Upon A.G.'s return from Liberia, he and Elaine built a new home on land inherited from Elaine's grandfather, Eilert Mueller. A.G. started a small dirt moving company with an office in Mathis, Texas. He followed this line of work until 1970. Then, he went into partnership with Billy Jack Reed and they operated a feedlot cleaning business in the Texas panhandle and Oklahoma. In 1972, A.G. and Elaine moved with their daughters of the home to Okarche, Oklahoma. They lived there 6 years, and while living in Oklahoma, A.G. achieved his lifelong dream of becoming a licensed pilot. In 1978, A.G. and Elaine returned to their ranch of FM 1349 in Beeville, where A.G. returned to road building and worked for the City of Beeville. He had always had an interest in law enforcement and became a member of the Bee County Sheriff's Reserves, later becoming a fulltime deputy. After an injury, he retired to ranching fulltime. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beeville, and a Master Mason. He was also a member of the York Scottish Rite. He served as Worshipful Master of Beeville Lodge 261 from 1998-1999. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elaine Mueller; three children, son, Arthur "Guy" Holt, Jr. of Beeville, daughters, Cheryl Francis and husband, Dan, and Denise Oppel and husband, Dale all of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; plus five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, Texas. Chapel services are scheduled for Friday, April 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home, Bill Stockton officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery with a Masonic service. Pallbearers will be Austin Francis, Chris Francis, Dusty Chesnutt, Ray Rorick, Steve Martin, and Mark Dragon. Honorary pallbearers will be Beeville Lodge 261.
