Barbara Nell (McGrew) Quinn passed from this life into the next on March 24, 2024, at the age of 86. Barbara was born June 4, 1937 in Beeville, Texas, to William Irving McGrew and Pallie Catherine (Ballard) McGrew.
She graduated in 1955 from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, married her high school sweetheart, Charles Quinn, on June 4, 1956, then traveled around the country supporting Charles’ 25-year Air Force career and raising their five children: Bill, Dan, Gary, Cristy, and Susan.
Barbara was an avid crafter with a love of anything Christmas. She enjoyed playing bingo, bunco, gardening, baking, and was an enthusiastic collector of many things! Charles and Barbara were the smoothest dancers on any dance floor. They were huge fans of Little Joe y La Familia, attending their concerts on cruise ships, in Las Vegas, Alaska, and across Texas.
She was the glue that held many social groups together, especially her high school class of 1955, always making sure everyone stayed connected and informed about other classmates and upcoming reunions. The same could be said about the cherished military friends she made along the way. Her address book could be displayed as a national treasure! She was an active parishioner at both St. Joseph and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Churches.
Barbara loved being a mother and grandmother. She supported her daughters and daughters-in-law after the birth of every single grandchild…and she had 19! She was actively involved and always made an effort to be present at special family events such as baptisms, First Communions, graduations, and weddings. Everyone in the family anticipated receiving personal phone calls and hearing her sing happy birthday to them every year without fail. One of the most treasured items in our families are the handcrafted, personalized Christmas stockings she made and presented to every single child, spouse, grandchild, and great-grandchild, totaling more than 68 lucky recipients!
Left to carry on her loving memories are her sons, Bill (Martha) Quinn of Houston, Dan (Cindy) Quinn of College Station and Gary (Chris) Quinn of McKinney; daughters, Cristy Roberts of Tulsa and Susan (Troy) Mendez of San Antonio; 19 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Irving and Pallie McGrew; stepmother, Daisy McGrew; husband, Charles Quinn; sisters, Lola Phillips and Mary Hutchins; and granddaughter, Callie Sue Quinn.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary.
Services will be Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at Beeville Memorial Park.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Martin, Ryan, Reagan, Kasey, Riley, Patrick, Abigail, Callie, Nathan, Michael, Robby, Amy, Mary, Ethan, Madison, Marcus and Devin.
A reception at the St. Joseph parish hall will follow the graveside service for all to attend and share their memories of Barbara.
The Friday Rosary and Saturday services will be live streamed for friends and family who aren’t able to attend. Please refer to Barbara Quinn's obituary on the Galloway & Sons Funeral Home website and click on the live stream link on bottom of the page.
