Bonnie J. Koonce of Calliham, Texas, passed away on April 12, 2024, at 87 years of age. Family was at her side at the time of her passing. She was a resident of Pleasanton South Nursing and Rehabilitation at the time of her death, after suffering a stroke in April 2023.
She was born on June 24, 1936, in Orangefield, Texas to Andrew and Elmina Boudreaux. Her mother, Elimina Boudreaux, passed away in December of 1952 from cancer. Bonnie grew up in Orangefield and graduated from Orangefield High School in 1954. She attended business school at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Orangefield, Texas.
She married her husband, Roy Koonce, on June 15, 1956. The young family moved to Calliham, Texas shortly after the birth of their first daughter, Deborah Ann Koonce. They had two more children, Carolyn Sue Koonce and Roy Lee Koonce, before her husband, Roy, was killed in a car accident in August of 1977.
Bonnie worked at the McMullen Country Tax office for 33 years, retiring in July 2014.
Bonnie and her brother, Virgil Boudreaux, stayed in close contact all their lives. After retiring, she took advantage of the gambling trip buses to Coushatta to visit with Virgil and their extended family. Bonnie loved to read and get together with friends for Bunco. She volunteered with the Calliham Community organization and served as the treasurer. Her greatest enjoyment was the time she was able to spend with family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Koonce; her parents, Andrew and Elmina Boudreaux; her stepmother, Rose Boudreaux; and her brother, Virgil Boudreaux.
Bonnie J. Koonce is survived by her sister-in-law, Melba Boudreaux; her daughters, Debbie and Clayton Yendrey and Carolyn Brosig; a son, Roy Lee and Jenni Koonce; seven grandchildren, Chrissy and John Stubbs, Jennifer and Chris Scheffler, Cody and Amanda Brosig, Roy and Tonya Brosig, Joey, Audrey and Rowdy Koonce; nine great-grandchildren, Hailey and McKayla Stubbs, Madilyn, Conner and Caden Scheffler, Payson and Bailey Brosig, Mason and Brooklyn Brosig; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family of Bonnie J. Koonce wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Pleasanton South Nursing & Rehabilitation and its staff and to New Century Hospice for their care and understanding with our mother during this time.
In lieu of flowers, Bonnie’s wish was to ask if you would like to send a donation in Bonnie’s name to STCH Ministries (South Texas Children’s Home), P.O. Box 759, Beeville, Texas 78104.
