Pat McGuill, 84, of Refugio died Monday, Jan. 30, 2012. Mr. McGuill was born Feb. 4, 1927, in Refugio to Charlie and Ollie Lee (Curbello) McGuill. He married Joella Waggoner on July 27, 1949, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio. He attended Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Blanconia. A direct descendent of the founding Irish settlers, he was known as the local historian and served for several years on the Refugio County Historical Commission. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran. He was retired from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline. Later, he spent time as a ranch foreman for both Lawrence Wood and Bobby Heard. Survivors include his wife, Joella (Waggoner) McGuill; two sons, Grady Pat (Ruby) McGuill of Lexington and Ray (Gayla) McGuill of Gainesville; four daughters, Donna (Bob) Caughron of Lampasas, Christie (Steve) Knudsen of Kingsville, Judith McGuill of Refugio and Aleene Prause of Beeville; 13 grandchildren, Sean and Kathlyn McGuill, Kelsey McGuill, April Ochoa, Jeremiah and Benjamin Caughron, Leslie, Amy and Sallie Knudsen, Shane and Sarah Brister and Paden and Quinten Stanley; seven great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Father Martin McGuill, Michael McGuill, Anne Hawkins and Mary Helen Duchek. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Visitation followed from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Blanconia. A rosary was recited at 7 o'clock that evening at the church. The funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Refugio. Burial followed at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Refugio. Pallbearers were Shane Brister, Jeremiah Caughron, Benjamin Caughron, Sean McGuill, Paden Stanley, Quinten Stanley, Steve Knudsen and Bob Caughron. Honorary pallbearers were April Ochoa, Leslie Knudsen, Amy Knudsen, Sarah Brister, Sallie Knudsen, Kathlyn McGuill and Kelsey McGuill.
