Charles Howard Steele, 86, passed away on March 3, 2015. He was born on March 18, 1928, in DeWitt, Arkansas to Charles Finch and Lillie (Cunningham) Steele. He married Sylvia Basaldu on April 10, 1968. Charles served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1970. He was a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veteran and was a pilot bombardier. After retiring from his naval career, he was a truck driver for Coastal Transport. He was a Baptist and had lived in George West, Texas since 2001. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Steele of George West; children, Betty Land of Livingston, Diana Self of George West, John McBride of Alice, Brian McBride of Portland, and Linda McBride of Laredo; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Sue Black and Nancy Boyd both of Arkansas. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2015, at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.
