Charles Vater

Charles M. Vater, 76, of Beeville, died Friday, March 29, 2013. Mr. Vater was born July 26, 1936, in Mason to Milton and Louise (Johnson) Vater. He attended North Texas State University in Denton and married Jeannette Priess in Fredericksburg on May 24, 1959. He was a retired teacher for Beeville ISD and taught government, history, speech and drama from 1959-81. After retiring, he began Vater Satellite Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Louise Vater; and a brother, Jon Vater. Survivors include his wife, Jeannette Vater of Beeville; a son, Jim (Jeannine) Vater of Spicewood; a daughter, Judy (John) Chastain of Van; three grandchildren, Zachary Vater, Troy Vater and Leslie Chastain; and numerous other family members and friends. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted there Wednesday, April 3, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Larry McRorey officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stewart Wofford, John Chastain, Steve Batch, Zachary Vater, Troy Vater and Patrick Sojt. Memorial donations may be made to the hospice organization of one's choice.
