Clem Young

Clem Clifford Young, 88, of Beeville, died Saturday, April 16, 2011. Mr. Young was born July 19, 1922, in Beeville, to Johnnie Lottie Schulz and James Edgar Young. He married Doris Nelson in Lake Charles, La., on June 27, 1942. Mr. Young was a carpenter and member of First Baptist Church in Beeville. In the 1960s, he helped with Explorer Scouts. He assisted in the building of many homes in the area and was most noted for the custom cabinets made for the Capehart Housing homes. He also assisted in the construction of the control tower at Chase Field, the original Bee County Hospital and Thomas Jefferson Junior High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Johnnie Young; his wife, Doris Young; two brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two children, Lindy Blankenship of Beeville and Wayne (Barbara) Young of Lake City; six grandchildren, Laura and Lacey Blankenship, Stephany Martin, Ronnie Young, Shannon Phipps and Kimberly Denson; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted there Tuesday at 2 o'clock with Pastor Greg Traylor officiating. Musical selections will be provided by organist Mary Ellen Thoms and singer Ralph Howell and will includ "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Just a Closer Walk With Thee." Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dale Blankenship, Roger Perkins, Mark Sugarek, Fred Dodd, Richard Zander, Mike Young and Bobby Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church School, South Texas Children's Home or the organization of one's choice.
