Connie Axley Aman

Connie Axley Aman, 77, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on September 28, 2024.

Connie was born March 25, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas and raised in Nacogdoches, Texas by Branch and Veida Axley. It was at Stephen F. Austin University that she met the love of her life, James Elwood Aman, and married him on July 15, 1967. They were married 35 years and lived in Houston where they raised their two children, Jim and Laurie. Connie was always volunteering at the school and in the community, she thrived on helping others. She loved music and loved to sing and dance. She also enjoyed painting.

On Saturdays and Sundays, you could find Connie in front of the TV watching football. She cheered for several college teams (UT, A&M, Baylor and Alabama) and was a lifelong Houston Oilers fan before becoming a Texans fan. She loved all animals, but especially dogs, and always had a Shih Tzu as a companion. After being widowed for several years, Connie made the move to San Antonio in 2012 to be closer to her daughter and grandsons. She was able to attend many of their sporting events, graduations and other milestones, and spend quality time with them. She also reconnected with her lifelong best friend in San Antonio and met other friends through Bible study, church, and her neighborhood.

Connie struggled with kidney failure for the last 14 years of her life. In 2014, her son donated one of his kidneys, giving her the gift of 10 more years of life. Her life expectancy with the new kidney was 5 to 7 years, but she made it 10! Her goal was to see her youngest grandson graduate from high school, which she was able to do in May. We are so grateful. Please consider becoming an organ donor.

Connie was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Aman; her parents, Branch and Veida Axley; and sisters, Kay and Sharon Axley.

She is survived by her son, James Aman, Jr.; daughter, Laurie (Kevin) Galloway; grandsons, James Aman Galloway and Joseph David Galloway; sister, Linda Axley Cower; sister-in-law, Jan Aman Koehler; brother-in-law, Thomas Oliver (Mary) Aman; and nieces and nephews, Ceburn Musgrave, Jennifer Aman McFall, William Nolan Aman, Leslie Aman Pearson, Mark Brenden Aman, Anna Aman Eeds, Jeffrey Paul Aman and Heather Aman Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, Texas, with Pastor Kate Jones of Skidmore United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be William “Bill” Aman, Jeff Aman, Mark Aman, Hunter Blakey, James Galloway and Joseph “Joe” Galloway.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
