Coral Lee (Ables) Gibson, 83, passed away peacefully at her home in Beeville, Texas on Sunday, May 1, 2022.
Coral was born July 26, 1938 in Durango, Colorado, to Jessie (Foutz) and Stanley Ables. She was a 1955 graduate of Valley High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and pursued a career in teaching where she earned a Master’s degree in Education. In 1956, she joined the U.S. Marines Corps and in 1958, she became a Corporal after serving as supply administrative clerk and file clerk. She married Thurman Floyd Gibson on Dec. 4, 1973 in New Mexico. After teaching for numerous years, Coral retired from the Beeville ISD and later from the Windham School District. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Stanley Abels; husband, Thurman Floyd Gibson in 2011; son, Thurman Floyd Gibson, Jr. in 2018; daughter, Vicki Mitchell; and sister, Stanlie Gail Andrews.
Those left to cherish fond memories include her three daughters, Paulina Seals of Beeville, Deniece (Jerry) Allred of Cedar City, Utah, and Jessie Gibson of Beeville; a son, Ernest (Michelle) Spicer of Houston; grandsons, John Jackson Jr., Patrick and Phillip Featherling, Kyle and Garren Allred and Ernest Spicer Jr.; granddaughters, Brandi (Jonathan) Alvarez, Ashlee Allred, Emrie and Sage Spicer and Courtney Wilson; 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Jessica Janeen Howard; and a brother, Troy Ables.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Alvarez, Jonathan Alvarez Jr., Patrick Featherling, Phillip Featherling, John R. Jackson Jr., Jerry Allred and Ernest Spicer.
