Cory Gale Whetten, a beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle, friend and colleague, passed away on January 1, 2025, at Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville, Texas. He was also a dedicated United States Border Patrol Agent and distinguished K9 Handler. His death was the result of a tragic motorcycle accident.

Cory was born in Del Rio, Texas in 1987. His commitment to service was evident from an early age. He graduated from McAllen High School in 2005, served an LDS mission in Honduras, and graduated from the University of Texas-Pan American. He had worked for the Border Patrol for ten years. He was recognized for many achievements during his career as a Border Patrol Agent and as a K9 handler instructor. He was assigned to the Kingsville Station at the time of his death.

His tragic death leaves a profound sense of sorrow among those who knew and loved him as well as those who worked with and respected him. Left to mourn Cory’s passing are his father, Lester Leroy (Irene) Whetten of Mission, Texas; his mother, Ranae Remington of Phoenix, Arizona; his sisters, Raegan (Reuben) Turner and Lindsay (Jesse) Keeler; his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandfather. He will also be missed by his beloved K9 partner, Badi, who stood by him through many challenging and rewarding moments.
