Curry Lee Newport, 78, passed away on December 20, 2013. Born to Fred and Blanche (Curry) Newport June 24,1935, Curry Lee Newport was the youngest of 3 children raised on the grounds of the University (of Arkansas) farm in Harmon, Arkansas. He graduated from Texas A&M University and participated in the US Army as part of the peace time draft. He arrived in the big town of Three Rivers, TX, in 1959, and here he remained teaching, coaching, and finally retiring as a principal after 40 years at TRISD. He stayed active as co-owner Newport Real Estate for over a decade. He was also a member of the Rotary Club, Bulldogs Boosters, and the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Norma; sons Scott (Valerie) Newport, Coy Armstrong, Clay (Kristy) Armstrong, and daughter Kelly (Pat) James; grandchildren Landry and Avery Newport, Dylan Armstrong, Kenzie Armstrong, Whitley and Shelby James; and numerous friends. Visitation was held on Sunday, December 22, 2013 from 5p.m - 7p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers, TX. A funeral service was held on Monday, December 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Three Rivers, TX. Interment followed at The Three Rivers Cemetery.
