David E. "Bud" Walton

David E. "Bud" Walton, 93, of George West, Texas passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Live Oak Nursing Center.

David was born on March 6, 1931, in Gussettville, Texas to William "Bill" David Walton and Virginia (Massey) Walton. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force in his younger years. His life was characterized by hard work and dedication, particularly in his career as a water well driller, and he made significant contributions to his community. He was a faithful member of Brush Country Cowboy Church. He enjoyed taking things apart and putting them back together and loved his trips to Colorado. David was an avid fisherman and hunter and spent much time on the Nueces River where he was raised.

On September 23, 2006, David married Viola Hummel in Colorado. Their union brought him much happiness and joy. He was previously married to Carolyn Janice (Bradfute) Walton Wilson for 20 years.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Virginia Walton; his sisters, Aliene Skinner, Ilamae Hines, Deama Lemley, Ivalee Bridges and Willie Ruth Ford; as well as his daughter, Belinda Baker.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Viola Hummel of George West; his brother, John (Wanda) Walton of George West; his children, Mark Walton of George West, Julie Gay Lewis of George West, Pete West of Virginia, James Shoemaker of East, Texas, Michael Hummel of California, Nichelle (Joseph Lennon) Hummel of George West and Tamara (David) Wheeler of Iowa. He was a beloved grandfather to 14 grandchildren, a proud great-grandfather to 15 great-grandchildren, and he celebrated the joy of a great-great-grandson.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 30, under the big oak tree at 522 FM 799, Gussettville, Texas.
