Deborah "Debbie" Lea Sugarek

Deborah “Debbie” Lea Sugarek, 65, of Beeville, Texas passed away Sunday, January 19, 2025, in Victoria following a brief illness.

Debbie was born April 18, 1959 in Beeville to Clovis “Botch” Ray Sugarek and Verna Lea (Bauer) Sugarek. A proud graduate of Skidmore-Tynan High School, Debbie furthered her education and earned a bachelor's degree from Bee County College. Her commitment to her work and education highlighted her determination and strength, qualities that she carried with her daily. She was a dedicated professional who began her career as a bank teller before becoming a correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Debbie was known for her sweet and kind personality, which endeared her to many throughout her life. She cherished her role as an aunt to her beloved nieces. She was a member of St. Jospeh Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved her cat, “Lucky” and helping out in her community brought her much joy. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lea and Botch Sugarek.

Survivors include a brother, Steven Ray Sugarek; four nieces, Stefanie D. (Reyes) Martinez III, Raelynda Lehmberg, Cheyenne Pullin and Kristan Pullin; great-nephews, Xavier Martinez, Zach Martinez and Gabriel Martinez; great-niece, Gabriella Martinez; great-great-nephews, Kayden and Zachariah Martinez; and sisters-in-law, Linda Lehmberg and Carmen (Wallace) Pullin.

The community will have the opportunity to pay their respects at a visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, January 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Rosary to be recited at 10 o’clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 that morning with Father Pete Elizardo officiating.

Pallbearers will be Reyes Martinez, Zach Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Joe Sugarek, Rockie Stautzenberger and Wallace Pullin.

Burial will be held at a later date.
