Dell Curby, 95, of Beeville, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010. He was born May 24, 1914, in Santo, Texas, to John Gorman and Catherine Surena Blackwood Curby. He married Leona Reader Curby in Pettus on June 28, 1937. He worked as a truck driver for J.I. Hailey, was a rig builder and worked in the oilfield, retiring as an oilfield motorman. Mr. Curby was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Robert Curby; four brothers, Lewis, Jack, Oliver and Arthur Curby; and three sisters, Idella Moore, Pauline Denning-Payne and Ollie Rollins-Webb. Survivors include one son, Homer D. (Carolyn) Curby Jr. of Beeville; one daughter, Janice (David) Chesnutt of Tuleta; one daughter-in-law; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Galloway and Sons Funeral chapel where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Saturday. Rev. Don Hessong will officiate. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Curby, Randy Curby, Brandon Curby, David Chesnutt, Dustin Chesnutt and Phillip Arrisola.
