Donald Burris

Donald Hugh Burris, 61, passed away peacefully at his home in the Friendship Community of Beeville, TX on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Don was born on September 7, 1956, to Patricia (Burris) Conway and John H. Burris in Victoria, TX. With his father in the Air Force, he moved often as a child. He told stories of his fondest childhood times visiting his cousins and aunts and uncles in New Mexico and Oklahoma. He met the mother of his children in Odessa, TX in 1981, where they soon started a family. In 1984 Don started his own company servicing oil wells. He moved his family and business to Beeville in 1987, to be closer to his father, where he spent the remainder of his career. Don was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church for 30 years, former President of the Bee County Jr. Livestock Show Board, World Champion Armadillo Racer, 4-H club manager, fishing & hunting enthusiast, wireline expert, father, grandfather, husband, and friend. After raising his children, he married Naomi Burris in 2013. He spent the last two years in the fight of his life, against a brutal cancer while unselfishly raising his young niece, Layla.

He loved unconditionally and saw the best in every person. He was adventurous and thoughtful. He kept a left-handed glove in his car because with eight grandsons, you never know when you might need one.
Don will be remembered most for his giving heart; for leading the blessing at mealtime; for his one-of-a-kind laugh and die-hard political opinion; his love for fishing, motorcycles and fast cars - and Denny's; his unmatched pride and confidence in his children & grandchildren; and for his faith in God, which lent him amazing strength to give cancer one hell of a fight. Don loved The Lord and was excited to meet Him when his journey here was done.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Naomi Burris, his two daughters, Rebecca and husband Bill Sansing of Bay City, TX, Audrey and husband Kurt Johnson, Jr. of Danbury, TX; his son, John E. Burris and wife Britney of Dickinson, TX; eight grandsons, Owen & Dylan Sansing, Clayton, Bryson & Corbin Johnson, Hunter, Easton and Noah Burris; identical-twin grand-daughters, Loretta and Amelia Sansing; brother, Larry Burris of San Antonio, TX; and sister, Debbie Abbott of Albuquerque, NM.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 23rd from 10am to 8pm at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, TX. Services will begin at Galloway & Sons on Wednesday, at 11am, followed by a precession to the graveside service at Beeville Memorial Cemetery.
