Dorthie Earnest

Dorthie E. (Mayes) Earnest, 86, of Beeville, formerly of Refugio, died Sunday, March 27, 2011. Mrs. Earnest was born March 28, 1924, in Putnam to Mable and L.F. Mayes. She married Elmer W. Earnest in Cotulla on May 17, 1964, and worked as a telegraph operator, social worker, postal carrier and dorm administrator. She enjoyed music, dancing, rodeos, hunting and travel. She was a supporter of the American Cancer Society, South Texas Children's Home and the American Heart Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer W. Earnest; and two sons, Gordon B. Hamlett and Benny M. Hamlett. Survivors include two sons, Leonard W. Freeman of San Antonio and Horace J. Hamlett of Gatesville; three daughters, Suzanne Isenhower of Liberty Hills, Linda (Dick) Cobb of Beeville and Dorthie (Rick) Black of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A private family service will be held in Cotulla at a later date. Memorial donations may be may to the South Texas Children's Home or the Hospice of South Texas-Victoria.
