Douglas West, 81, of Beeville, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. Mr. West was born Sept. 19, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Elsie Lee and Percy Howard West. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a submarine sailor and was wounded during his service time (WIA). He married Thelma Juanita Coleman in Corpus Christi on Feb. 13, 1987, and was an electronic technician for DuPont. He was a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church and the Vestry. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Sally Elanore West. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Juanita West of Beeville; a son, William Howard (Tracey) West of Alaska; a daughter, Martha Ellen Margliotti of Lubbock; a step-daughter, Winnie Allen of Browns Mills, N.J.; two stepsons, Wendell (Dorothy) Perkins of San Antonio and Nathaniel F. (Diana) Merida of Beeville; 10 step-grandchildren; eight grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation was held from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted at St. Philip's Episcopal Church Monday morning, Jan. 23, at 11 o'clock with Rev. Clayton Elder officiating.
