Duane Merrell

Duane Marvin "Dudie" Merrell, 88, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was born December 29, 1929, to Vernice "Jack" and Zora (Radcliff) Merrell of Dewy, Oklahoma. The family moved from Oklahoma to Texas. He was a graduate of Pettus High School class of 1949. He served in the U.S. Army as Corporal in the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal and 3 Bronze Service Stars. He married Joyce Hester in June of 1953. They started a family and had three children, Ronnie, Lonnie and Ruby Joy. He worked as a mechanic for 22 years for Merrell Lease Service and after retiring from Merrell Lease Service, he did work for people in the community.

He leaves behind his wife, Ruby Merrell of Pettus; two sons, Ronnie (Karen) Merrell of Beeville and Lonnie (Cherill) Merrell of Mineral; and a daughter, Ruby Joy (Jerry) Morris of Pettus; grandchildren, Ronnie Merrell, Kimberely Bostic, Jeremy Morris, Chris Merrell, Jodi DeForest, Kenny, Merrell, Jonathan Merrell, Josh Schrock, Lee Schrock, Robert Schrock, Amber Ruter, Sherie Carranza, Lee Shanklin, Nick Ruter; and great-grandchildren, Trent Morris, Zane Bostic, Emily Pena, Mason DeForest, Logan Pena, Chris Merrell, Brooklyn Merrell, Amos Merrell, Caleb Merrell, Rhyana Ruter, Kiernan Ruter, Aubrie Shanklin and Skyelar Shanklin; two sisters, Carolyn Davis of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Norma (Ed) Apple of Yoakum; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Hacienda Oaks of Beeville and the hospice nurses of Beeville.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Santos Coreas, Jeremy Morris, Jonathan Merrell, Ronnie Merrell, Michael Merrell and Kenny Merrell. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Peterson, Jim Fox, Jesse Berthold, Bill Hester, Richard Rabe, Jacinto Aguirre, Les Stern, Kenny Arrington, David Merrell and Joe Korezynski.
