Edith Schroeder

Edith Viola Schroeder, a long time resident of Live Oak County, passed away on December 2, 2013. She was 102 years old. Edith was born on November 21, 1911 in Alba, Texas to George William Poss and Willie Pirl Wilkins. Her family moved to West Texas in a covered wagon pulled with a team of horses when she was five years old. She went to school and helped her family on the farm. When she was in her early teens she drove a team of horses to cultivate cotton. After finishing school she moved to the Fort Stockton and Marfa area. Edith met Anthony Edward Schroeder (Chub), a heavy equipment operator, and they were married in Pecos, Texas on October 31, 1941. After the war, Edith and Chub moved to Odem, Texas and then to Live Oak County where they bought a farm in the Clegg community. Chub farmed and operated heavy equipment and Edith became a homemaker. Edith was an active member of the Church of Christ in George West for over 68 years. She volunteered and served on many organizations, some of which were the American Cancer Society, Home Demonstration Club, Arts and Crafts Club, and special projects associated with the Church of Christ. She always loved to travel and was proud of the fact that she had been to almost every state in America.
