Edward Sugarek

Edward L. Sugarek of Beeville passed away Monday, January 16, 2012, at his home in Bee County after a long and courageous struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2012, with the Rev. Linda Sherry officiating. Mr. Sugarek was born on January 19, 1925, on the family farm in the Central Community of Bee County. He attended Central School and graduated from high school in Beeville, continuing his life-long career in farming and ranching up until the time of his death. He was involved with several farming and ranching organizations serving on the board of the Bee County Farm Bureau, receiving their "Farmer of the Year" award. He also served on the board of the Farm Service Agency. He was a lifelong member of the Bee County Cooperative in Tynan and served as a member of the board of directors for many years. Edward was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Beeville serving as Deacon and Elder. He was one of the longest lifetime members of F.P.C. Beeville where he joined on September 27. 1936. He was also a 48 year member of the Beeville Masonic Lodge #261, A.F. & A.M., joining in 1964. Mr. Sugarek is survived by his wife of 66 years, Aleene (Luthringer) Sugarek, whom he married in Beeville on January 19, 1946; 3 children, Susan Rossow, Mark (Deana) Sugarek, and Jennifer (Mark) Dragon; 7 grandchildren, Jim (Gina) Sugarek, Ellen Sugarek, Todd (Corissa) Rossow, Kurt Rossow, Stacey Rossow, Trevor Dragon, Trenton Dragon; 1 great-grandchild, Samantha Sugarek; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Edward Lee Sugarek II; his parents, James and Lill (Holik) Sugarek; and 3 brothers, Randolph, J.C., and Dick Sugarek. Visitation will be from 5-7p.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2012, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment following services will be held at Glenwood Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Service. Pallbearers will be Frank Dehnisch, Bruce Healy, Larry McClintock, Jay Lawson, Trace Morrill, and Gary Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Sugarek, Blackstone Dilworth, R. W. Dirks, Lee Archer, A. G. Holt, Kenneth McClintock, and Buddy Hardy. Those who wish may make donations to First Presbyterian Church, 908 N. Washington, Beeville, Texas 78102.
