Elbert Lawton "Buz" Brown, Jr., a resident of Sandia, Texas, passed away on February 16, 2016, at the age of 80. Buz was born on November 13, 1935, in Beeville, Texas, to Elbert Brown, Sr., and Louise (Gardner) Brown. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School, class of 1953. He studied one year at Texas A&M in College Station and graduated from Texas A&I College in 1957. He performed his master's work in psychology at Middle Tennessee State University. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army where he served for 33 years active duty and in the Reserves. He retired at the rank of Colonel. Buz is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Bradford Brown; his sons, Bradford and Benjamin Brown; his grandchildren, Ryan Brown, Matthew Brown, Savanna Ruis, Shepherd Brown, and Charlotte Brown; and by his great-grandchildren, Hunter Brown and Evelyn Ruis. He is predeceased by his mother and father; his beloved sister, Jamie Blum; and his loving daughter, Amy Elizabeth Brown. While stationed in San Antonio, he met Elizabeth while she was studying at Trinity University. They married in 1960 and began a 56 year love affair traveling and raising their three children. Buz was a devoted husband and loving father. Second to his family, Buz truly loved and nurtured his relationships with his long list of classmates and friends. He never met a stranger. He served in many church and civic organizations including as President of the Southeastern Blind Rehabilitation Center Alumni organization, as secretary and treasurer of the Blinded Veterans Administration; and as a member of the Beeville Historic Committee and Cemetery Committee. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
