Elvira Ybanez, 85, of George West died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015. Mrs. Ybanez was born Oct. 11, 1930 to Jose B. and Carolina Gonzales, Miendietta Community.She married Francisco Ybanez on Dec. 26, 1948, in George West. She worked at George West ISD cafeteria for over 30 years. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church and a member of the St. George Altar Society. She taught a Brownies Troop and a 4-H Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Elda (Leli) Pena; and three brothers, Bartolo Gonzales, Raul T. Gonzales, and Abelito Gonzales. Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Garcia and Dolores "Madi" Ybanez-Howard both of San Antonio; two sisters, Gloria Gonzales and Elda Gonzales both of George West; three brothers, Jose Gonzales of Three Rivers, Abelino Gonzales of George West, and Benny Gonzales of Harlingen; three grandchildren, Sonjia Theresa Garcia, Leon Garcia, and Frank Jacob Daws; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, at Galloway & Sons chapel in George West. A rosary will be recited at 6 o'clock at St. George Catholic Church in George West. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, at the church with Father George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at St. George Catholic Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Leon Garcia, Frank Jacob Daws, Simon Pena, Rey Gonzales,Rodd Daws, and Victor Ybanez. Honorary pallbearers will be Raynoldo Gonzales and Brandon Howard. Organist will be Barbara Bednorz.
