E.M. Herrmann, Sr.

E.M. "Gene" Herrmann Sr., 90, of Beeville, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016. Mr. Herrmann was born May 16, 1925, in Skidmore to Frank Joseph and Mary (Vavrusa) Herrmann and was a lifelong resident of Beeville. He was a high school graduate and served in the U.S. Army, after which he joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves and served for more than 20 years. He married Evelyn Witte in May of 1953 in Karnes City and Ruth Varnick in Beeville in January of 1978. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for more than 37 years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also of the Travelers Protection Association (TPA) for more than 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Evelyn (Witte) Herrmann in 1961; second wife, Ruth (Varnick) Herrmann in 2010; sons, Wayne L. Herrmann and Dennis Dement; and two brothers, Lawrence Herrmann and Harold L. Herrmann. Survivors include his children, Gene M. (Patricia) Herrmann of Pleasanton, Sharon Herrmann (Rick) Holmes of Conroe, Debbie (Edward) Collier of Perkinston, Mississippi, and Dixie (Steve) Warren of Vancleave, Mississippi; 17 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jamie, Emma, Will, Kyle, Lauren, Julie, Trisha, Eric, Andrea, Teresa, Ryan, Jeanette, Dallas, Heather, Stephanie and Kevin; and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. A rosary will be recited there that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Richard Gonzales officiating. Musical selections "A Closer Walk With Thee" and "How Great Thou Art" will be provided by organist Jeannie Leos. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Byron Dugat, Harold Herrmann, Will Herrmann, Kyle Holmes, Rick Miller and Bobby Reider. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Linnstaedter and Jim Stinson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may by made to the charity of one's choice.
