Eugene Sassin

Eugene J. Sassin, 80, of Beeville, died Monday, May 13, 2013. Mr. Sassin was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Yoakum, Texas to Frank and Annie (Pavliska) Sassin. He married Carol Asher in Karnes City on Aug. 19, 1956, and worked for years as a lease operator in the oil field. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Lions Club in Weslaco and was an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Annie Sassin; his wife, Carol Sassin, in 2004; and his brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Gordon Sassin of Beeville and Roger (Sherri) Sassin of Tomball; three grandchildren, Jennifer Sassin, Kelly Hudson and Caitlyn Werner; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. A rosary will be recited there that evening at 7 o'clock. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Richard Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow in Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be John Hensley, Ricky Schultz, Bill Chestnut, R. A. Medina, Roy McCleary and Jimmy Hunt. Memorial donations may be made to Susan G. Komen Foundation.
