Gary L. Kent, 78, a dedicated reporter who made a lasting impression in the field of journalism, passed away suddenly on February 10, 2024, in Beeville. Gary dedicated more than 40 years as a photographer, writer and covering news around the community with Beeville Publishing Company.
Gary was born November 4, 1945, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to W.R. and Mary Jim (Chambers) Kent. After graduating from Garland High School in 1964, he proudly served in the U.S. Army and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Eastfield College and North Texas State University. He retired from Beeville Publishing Co. in December 2019.
While journalism was his true calling, Gary had many hobbies and interests that brought joy to his life. He had a deep love for water sports; whether it was swimming, boating or scuba diving, he found a deep inner peace being outdoors. He loved camping with his old buddies and reliving his Army days in the Philippines.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, W.R. and Jimmie Kent; and his beloved fur baby, Rachel.
Survivors include his brother, Ed (Sue) Kent of Oklahoma; a sister, Penny Sue (Freddie) Davis of Houston; and his Bee-Picayune family.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Gary’s neighbor, Consuelo Valdez, for her support.
Services will be private as per Gary’s wishes.
