Geraldine O'Brien

Geraldine Iona O’Brien, 95, of Beeville, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Geraldine was born January 28, 1924 in Paluxy, Texas, to Thomas Elijah and Hettie Iona (Glover) Pate. She was raised on a farm picking cotton by hand and tending the vegetable patch, which led to a lifelong love of gardening. After graduating high school, she moved to Austin where she attended business college prior to enlisting in the United States Navy during WWII, and proudly served her country in the WAVES until 1949. She was stationed at NAS Corpus Christi in 1946, where she met and married James “Jimmie” E. O’Brien, Sr.

Geraldine’s favorite pastimes were gardening, cooking, sewing, reading and shopping on QVC to stock her “magic closet.” She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be remembered by all those who knew her as the sweetest, kindest woman they had the privilege of knowing. She will be greatly missed.

Geraldine was preceded in death by James “Jimmie” E. O’Brien, Sr., her husband of 48 years.

She is survived by her children, Vera Nina O’Brien, James E. (Debbie) O’Brien, Jr. and Harriet Iona (Omar, Dec.) Gonzalez. Geraldine also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory.

The family would like to thank the Del Cielo Home Health & Hospice for the loving care and attention they gave to Geraldine, and give a special thanks to Jennifer Piper for all the love and laughter she shared with Mom.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 16, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a graveside service at 10 o’clock at Beeville Memorial Park.
