Gladys Anna Thompson passed on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Cuero, TX at the age of 84 years. She was born on Sept. 22, 1931 in Louise, TX. She had resided in George West since 1958. Visitation was on June 30, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West, TX. Funeral services were on Friday, July 1, 2016 at 10 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in George West, TX followed by burial in the George West Cemetery. Preceding Gladys in death were her father, William Hermann; mother, Annie Beale; husband ,Andrew James Thompson; brother, Billy Hermann; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Tony Brandl and sister, Clara Jo Strnadel. Surviving Gladys are her three sons, John (Gladys) Thompson of Cuero, Mike (Letha) Thompson of George West, Donald (Cheryl) Thompson of George West; five grandchildren, Heather (Kyle) Cox of Sulpher Springs, Shane Thompson and Taylor Thompson of George West, Kelsey Thompson and Wesley Thompson of Three Rivers; her sister, Irene (Milton) Dolezal of Hallettsville; sister-in-law, Betty Hermann of Columbus OH and brother-in-law, Joe Strnadel of Victoria. Gladys also had four step grandchildren, Becky Odem, Teresa (Leonard) Tello, Cynthia (Jason) Cartwright and Thad Redding. Grandma had 12 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Gladys met her husband to be when she was working as a dental hygienist and they married on January 26, 1950 in Hilje, TX. After marriage, she became a full time mother and raised her three sons. Following the death of her husband in 1988, Grandma was always ready to lend a helping hand to her family and loved ones and she loved going to stock shows and play days to watch one of the grandkids. She was Live Oak County Texas Extension Association Education Committee Chair from 2008-2010. Gladys always looked forward to her annual trips to Brownwood. Among her various jobs, she had many enjoyable moments driving Live Oak County senior citizens to various places. After retiring from Live Oak County, she enjoyed working part-time at the Grace Armentrout Museum in George West. Gladys had a passion for quilting and handwork and won numerous awards for her quilts. She always had handwork with her and passed her time making stitches when she had to sit and wait. She was always ready to devote her time to the community and served as memorials chairman of the George West Cemetery Association for over twenty years. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. Pallbearers were Terry Brandl, Jonesy Lansford, Sandy Tullis, Dan Mundorf, Jason Cartwright and Leonard Tello. Honorary pallbearers were her grandchildren, Heather (Kyle) Cox, Shane Thompson, Taylor Thompson, Kelsey Thompson and Wesley Thompson. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the George West Cemetery Association, P. O Box 262 George West, TX 78022 or the Grace Armentrout Museum.
