Normanna, Texas Grace Naylor Beck, 85, passed on to the Lord on June 18, 2012. She was born on December 27, 1926 in Clareville, Texas to Cleveland and Sally Jo (Loring) Naylor. She graduated from A.C. Jones High School with Honors in 1944 and married Roland Beck on September 30, 1946 in the Beeville First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Elizabeth Cichon. She is survived by her husband, Roland Beck Sr. of Normanna, Texas; sons, Roland (Cindy) Beck Jr. of Portland, Texas, Robert (Merry) Beck of Beeville, Texas, Rolf (Michele) Beck of Beeville, Texas and Ronnie (Judy) Beck of Normanna, Texas; grandchildren, Trevor (Holly) Beck, Melissa (Nathan) McCray, Roland "Tres" (Toni) Beck III, Keleigh (Russell) Mertens, Kristen Parnell, Paige (Zach) Koff, John Parnell, Ronnie Beck II, and Ryan Beck; her sister's children Joseph Greer of Plano, Texas and Ellis Greer of Beeville, Texas; and 10 great grandchildren. Grace was a loving and adoring daughter to her parents. She tended to both of them in their latter years till they each departed to heaven. Grace was a loving, caring sister to Elizabeth and cared for her as her health declined. Grace was a loving, faithful wife to Roland for over 65 years, both of them together providing a stable, loving homelife for their sons. Grace was a wonderful mother to her four sons raising them in the church and instilling in them her values, morals and integrity. She was active in their studies and extracurricular activities. One son nominated her for room mother in second grade; her school parties were so popular with the class that her son never had to nominate her for room mother again - his fellow classmates always nominated her to be their room mother. She always put her family and their needs first. Grace was very active in her community, especially concerning the preservation of history for future generations. Grace, along with Lin Cox, formed the committee that initiated the purchase of the Hall Rialto Theater from a local bank when the historical commission opted to forgo the purchase of the property. She participated in fundraisers and solicited contributors for the purchase and renovation of this valued downtown landmark. Grace was instrumental in helping to save Normanna's historical bridge west of town from destruction. Through Grace's work with fellow residents, the bridge was spared demolition and instead received Texas Historical and National Register markers. Grace was one of the founding members of the Normanna community that hosted a school party for the graduating Pettus High School seniors beginning in 1976 and continued for many years afterward. The party was held at the old Normanna school house with an "elementary class" theme. The family wishes to give special thanks to her caretakers - Alicia Martinez, Mary Jane Cuellar, Teresa Perez, Rosie Cantu and Adela Delos Santos. Her visitation was held Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Her funeral service was held Thursday, June 21, 2012 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry McRorey officiating. She was laid to rest at Glenwood Cemetery. Galloway & Sons Funeral Home 409 N. Tyler Beeville, TX 78102 361-358-2512 www.gallowayandsons.com
