Greta Lee Baker McGuill, 100, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 in Kenedy, TX. She was born in Mason, Oklahoma to Arthur Lee and Normandy Josephine (Murphy) Baker on January 20, 1912. Greta married Albert Leo McGuill in Beeville, TX on June 1, 1935. She was a school teacher and began teaching at Quincy and a small school in Live Oak Co. before teaching 20 years in Beeville, 6th grade at Madderra before retiring. Greta was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beeville and taught Sunday school for 50 years. She also volunteered for many years at the church making sure all families of the church were fed after funeral services. The last 6 years of her life she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kenedy. Greta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister in law, Dewey V. (Willie) Baker and sisters and brothers in law, Audrey Baker (Thomas) Brown and Ruth Baker (Milton) Alexander. She is survived by her son, Albert L. (Barbara) McGuill, Jr. of Beeville and her daughter, Phyllis McGuill (Ancel) Maddox of Houston; grandchildren, Albert L. "Chip" McGuill, III of Austin, Timothy M. (Laura) McGuill of Portland, OR, Christopher L. McGuill, Alyce Liane McGuill (Ron) Sublett of Beeville and Holly Maddox Ward of Austin; great-grandchildren, Rose Leigh McGuill of Beeville, Baker Lee Ward and Blake Maddox Ward of Austin, Dara Lyn McGuill of Portland, OR and Kinsey Faith Sublett and Kayley Bliss Sublett of Beeville and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation was held on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Galloway & Sons Chapel in Beeville from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Traylor officiating, assisted by Rev. Homer Hanna and Rev. T.J. Burris. Piano by Mary Ellen Thoms and soloist, Bob Granger, with special selections, "Amazing Grace" "Old Rugged Cross" "Just A Closer Walk" and "You Are My Sunshine." Interment followed at Beeville Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers were, Albert L. McGuill, III, Christopher L. McGuill, Tommy Brown, Vic Barris, Timothy M. McGuill, Bobby Alexander, Keith Brown, Mike Wright, Richard Baker, Holly Ward, Liane Sublett and Ron Sublett. Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, Beeville, South Texas Children's Home, or John Paul II Nursing Home, Kenedy, TX.
