Griselda G. Valverde, 79, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014. Ms. Valverde was born Dec. 22, 1934, in George West to Ramiro and Guillerma (Fuentes) Garcia. She married Pablo Valverde on Aug. 5, 1952, in George West. She was a homemaker and a member of St. George Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Valverde; two sisters, Graciela Gonzales and Gudelia Ybanez; and brother, Rento "Sapo" Garcia. Survivors include five daughters, Belinda (Nick Sr.) Villalobos of Lovington, New Mexico; Eldemira "Mira" Vargas of San Marcos, Deidra (J.R.) Chapa of George West, Laurie Valverde of Three Rivers and Christina (Roy) Gamez of Tilden; a son, Anthony Paul (Amy) Valverde of George West; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eubelia "Belle" Garza of Corpus Christi; Narcy "Gene" Secrist of Utah and Magdelena "Mackey" (Chon) Alvarez of George West; two brothers; Raul "Tripa" Garcia and Ramiro (Mary) Garcia Jr., both of George West. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, at Galloway & Sons Chapel, George West. A rosary will be recited there at 7 p.m. that evening. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at George West Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Lyne, Nick Villalobos Sr., Roy Gamez, Nick Villalobos Jr., Frank Lopez, Jesse Valverde and Randy Garcia. Honorary pallbearers will be J.R. Chapa, Javy Chapa, Ramiro Garcia Jr., Raul Garcia and Nick Villalobos III. Arrangements are under the direction of Galloway & Sons Funeral Home.
