Herbert Calkins

Herbert Charles Calkins Herbert Charles Calkins, of Pearsall, Texas, died October 10, 2011. Herb was born on November 29, 1926, in El Dorado, AR, and grew up in Beeville, TX. Herb spent his life in the oil field service industry and established several companies namely Mo-Vac Service Co. in McAllen, TX, and ILM in Lafayette, LA. He retired and lived on his C Cross Ranch, where he passed away. He was a dutiful and loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Herb is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Phillips Calkins. He is also survived by his sister, Robatine Calkins Kirkpatrick and husband Kirk; children: John Charles Calkins and wife Susie, Janine Calkins Manjarris, and Michael Jude Calkins and wife Brenda; grandchildren: Melissa Calkins Stelly and husband Chad, Ginger Jo Calkins, Natalie Manjarris Bayarena and husband David, Nicholas Francis Manjarris, Mia Elizabeth Manjarris, Clay Michael Calkins and Kali Nicole Calkins; great-grandchildren: Connor Charles Stelly, Bennett Lee Stelly, Bruce David Bayarena and Sophia Kate Bayarena. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Charles Calkins Sr. and Jesse Ione. Herb was also preceded in death by former wives, Betty Jo Calkins Rabon and Jeannette Huval Calkins. Pallbearers were Richard Moak, Barney Gary, Chad Stelly, Charles Kirkpatrick, Nicholas Manjarris, David Bayarena, Rico Valenzuela, and Jerry McWhorter. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. till the time of the funeral services at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, TX. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Rico and Rhonda Valenzuela and Heart to Heart Hospice for their loving care for Herb in his final months.
