H. O. "Sonny" Pipkin died Monday, Dec. 6. Sonny moved to Refugio in 1961, working in the oilfield. Shortly after, he started his own company, Thor-Jet, Inc. In the years that followed, he started and bought several other businesses. In 1999, he semi-retired and realized one of his retirement dreams -that of raising miniature horses. Sonny was also on the advisory board of directors of Frost National Bank, San Antonio, and a member of the Blanconia Baptist Church. Sonny was born on April 18, 1934, in Wichita Falls, to Hubert O. and Mildred Jones Pipkin. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivor's include his wife, Joy E. Pipkin of Refugio, three sons and their wives, Keith and Kathy Pipkin of Smithville, Eric and Stephanie Pipkin of San Marcos, and Steve and Stacy Pipkin of Cleveland; three sisters and their husbands, Jerry and Merl Smith of Refugio, Sue and Jack Best of Woodville, and June and Billy Cornwell of Sulphur, La.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at the Blanconia Baptist Cemetery in Blanconia, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9. Viewing can be done from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Blanconia Baptist Church on Dec. 9.
