James Edward Brooke passed away on June 30, 2017, in his home town of Beeville, Texas.
James was born in Coleman, Texas to James Boyce Brooke and Hazel Lucille Bassett on September 29, 1938. He went to high school in Abilene, TX and graduated in 1957. He received his business degree from Hardin-Simmons University in 1965. He loved his job in the insurance business, first as a Company representative, and then as an Independent Insurance Agent in Beeville. He was involved in many civic organizations but his passion was the church and the Emmaus Community. He was past president of Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club and served on the Bee County Western Week Board. He also served on numerous committees of the First United Methodist Church. He loved his San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid golfer and had 4 holes in one, three at the Beeville Country Club and one at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas.
James is survived by the love of his life, Margie Brooke of Beeville whom he married on November 23, 1968; two sons, Brannon Brooke (Tracy) of New Braunfels, and Cory Brooke (Julie) of New Braunfels; grandchildren, Jillian Brooke (San Antonio), Corbin Brooke, (New Braunfels), Benton Brooke (New Braunfels) and Bailey Brooke (New Braunfels); two sisters, Peggy Joyce Blackwell (Dan) of Coleman and Shirley Clark of Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home on Monday, July 3, 2017, from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral service will be held at The First United Methodist Church in Beeville on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Dean Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Beeville Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Bill Whitworth, Jon Fischer, Johnnie Bond, Fred Jennings, David Hutchens, Marion Williams, Larry Lerche and Jeff Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Hickey, Victor Smith and the members of James’s Thursday morning Emmaus group.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Joe Larakers for his friendship, compassion, care, and concern over the last few years and the fantastic staff at Christus Spohn Beeville for their care during his final days.
Memorial donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Beeville or to the Windmill Emmaus Group.
