James Taylor Strong, 72, passed away on November 26, 2013. He was born on October 11, 1941 in Beeville, Texas to Taylor and Eleanora (Range) Strong. He graduated from Skidmore-Tynan High School in 1959 and attended Texas A&I. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 to 1964 and the reserve from 1964 to 1966. James married Betty Peak on January 5, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. He was a resident of Spring, Texas until 1998 when he and his family moved to Skidmore, Texas. He retired from the oil and gas industry and was owner of Papa's Market in Skidmore. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Skidmore and a former member of the Skidmore Water District Board. He enjoyed vacations with his family (Alaska and Walt Disney World), watching his granddaughters play volleyball, and going to Las Vegas with his daughter and son-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Betty Strong of Skidmore; daughter, Stephanie Strong Langner and husband Wade of Tomball; two grandchildren, Ashlyn Suzanne Langner and Kaelyn Nicole Langner and one sister, Linda Strong Raven of Victoria. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sharon Steinmeyer officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore. Pallbearers will be David Baker, Bill Carriger, Will Carriger, Daryn Shaw, Wesley Thoms, and Jose Valdez. Honorary pallbearers will be George Baker, Charles Blasche, Raul "Chino" Gonzales, Bill Lee, Buddy Payne, Jim Raven, Don Spickerman, and Dudley Thoms.
