Jean Beasley

Jean Ann Albrecht Beasley, 57, passed away on May 29, 2010, after a valiant and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Goliad, Texas, on May 21, 1953, to the late W. D. "Billy" and Mattie Joyce Sedwick Albrecht. For most of her adult life, Jean Ann was engaged in the breeding and raising of fine beef cattle, a pursuit which she dearly loved. She was a proud member of the Albrecht ranching family, whose early members immigrated to Texas in 185o's, and was the manager of both the Albrecht and Beasley Ranches at the time of her death. Jean Ann was well respected by her ranching peers, who recognized and acknowledged her remarkable ability to consistently produce excellent calves for market. She loved ranching, raising cattle, and being outdoors, and almost every working day was spent actively involved in the field, managing her cattle business.?? Jean Ann graduated from Goliad High School in 1971, where she was an outstanding athlete, playing on the Goliad High School girls' basketball and tennis teams. She attended the University of Texas - Austin, where she became a member of the University of Texas womens' basketball team, and was an active member of the team for two years. At the beginning of Jean Ann's freshman year at UT, Pat Weis, the womens' golf coach, recognized the golfing potential that Jean Ann possessed and recommended that she be given golf lessons under the watchful and caring eye of the legendary Harvey Penick. Under Harvey's guidance, Jean Ann rapidly developed into an outstanding golfer, was shooting scores consistently in the 70's by the end of her freshman year, and became a member of the University of Texas womens' golf team. She was a three-year letter winner at the University of Texas for the womens' golf team, and played in NCAA Women's Golf Championships as a representative of the University of Texas golf team. After leaving Austin and the University of Texas, Jean Ann moved to Beeville, Texas, where she continued to pursue the game of golf, winning the Women's Championship Golf Tournament at the Beeville Country Club twenty-one times, including fourteen consecutive championship titles. ??Jean Ann was an avid bird and deer hunter who loved the outdoors and wildlife, and practiced and employed game management on both the Albrecht and Beasley Ranches with her beloved husband, John. She was an expert shot, winning numerous shotgun shooting competitions. Jean Ann was the winner of the first two Beeville Shoot-Out Competitions, where she prevailed against an extremely strong field of mainly male competitors, many of whom had world class credentials. ??Jean Ann, together with Paul and Robert Dirks, and assisted by Gene Williams, founded the Bean-Dirks Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to deserving Bee and Live Oak County school students entering college. She was the driving force behind the Annual Bean-Dirks Memorial Golf Tournament, which was a Pro-Am event held at the Beeville Country Club. Jean Ann spent many tireless hours managing the Bean-Dirks Golf Tournament, which effort has produced many thousands of dollars for student scholarships.?? Because of her absolute faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, she was able to accept the consequences of her illness with grace and dignity, knowing the path chosen for her would lead her to a beautiful and peaceful rest. ??Jean Ann is survived by her husband, John W. Beasley, of Beeville; mother, Mattie Joyce Sedwick Albrecht of Goliad, Texas; brother, William E. "Bill" Albrecht and wife, Franke, of Calabasas, California; and nephews, Luke Albrecht of Houston, Texas, Dr. Clay Albrecht of Phoenix, Arizona, and Andrew Beasley of Beeville; two step-daughters, Beverly A. Beasley of Dallas, Texas, and Shannon Louise (Brent) Juilleret of Danbury, Texas; three brothers-in law, Tom (Karole) Beasley of Beeville, Richard W. "Dick" Beasley of Beeville, James Robert "Bob" Beasley of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Anna B. (Bill) Streitman of Victoria, Texas, and Lillian Scott "Cissy" Beasley of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jean Ann was preceded in death by her son, William Leonard "Trey" Walker III; her father, W. D. "Billy" Albrecht; and her nephew, Mark Albrecht. ??Pallbearers were Dr. Clay Albrecht, Luke Albrecht, Andrew Beasley, Casey Daniels, Leo Gonzales, Vaughan Kelley, Arthur Luco, David Medellin, and Robert Sellers. Special gratitude is extended to Dr. Karole Beasley and her husband, Tom, Cissy Beasley, Anna Streitman, Becky Marshall, Thelma Sarmiento, Sofia Martinez and Rita Molina for their loving care.?? The family received visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home in Beeville, Texas. The funeral was held at 2:00 on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church in Beeville, Texas. Interment followed at the St. Peters Lutheran Church cemetery at Ander, Texas.??
