Jerry Dee Wheeler, 87, passed away on June 18, 2015. Born on October 16, 1927 in Tilden, Texas to Jesse Oppenheimer and Gertrude Bruce Wheeler, he resided most of his life in Three Rivers, Texas. He graduated from TRHS where he excelled in sports and later attended Uvalde Jr. College where he excelled in football and dancing. He served in the United States Army and worked as a pipeline superintendent at Three Rivers Refinery, Sigmor Refinery, and Diamond Shamrock for 45 years. Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Donna Jean Wheeler Moffet, Margaret Wheeler Gault, and Charlene Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler accomplished many great things during his life and was active in several civic organizations. He served as mayor of Three Rivers for four years, on the Three Rivers City Council for ten years, on the TRISD School Board for ten years, and on the LOC Fair Board for over 35 years serving as president for three years. Mr. Wheeler was an active member of the Three Rivers Lions Club and the American Legion for 62 years while also serving as Salvation Army Chairman for eight years. Mr. Wheeler also coached Little League, Pony League, and Babe Ruth baseball for over 30 years. He also officiated football, basketball, and baseball games for over 20 years. He is survived by Jane Zavisch of Three Rivers; daughters, Cheryl Jo Wheeler and Cheri Dee Moore and husband Dave of George West, and Cindy Ann Martinez and husband Eddie of Beeville, Texas; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Younts, Jillian Colvin and husband Clint, Katie Moore, Megan Moore, Joseph Moore, Crystal Reagan, Courtnie Reagan, Adam Trevino, and Ashlee Trevino and 6 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 21st at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Three Rivers. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Brush Country Cowboy Church in George West, Texas. Interment will follow on Monday afternoon at 2:00 at Hill Top Cemetery in Tilden, Texas. Pallbearers will be Paul Peeler, Warren Wheeler, Jim Naylor, Phil Wright, Jim Tom Gault, Rodney Shepherd while honorary pallbearers will be Lloyd Grubbs, Dewey Bellows, Buck Gregory, Pete Alexieff, Joe Wheeler, and Joe Crawford.
