John William Beasley, 72, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015, at his Beeville home, with his two daughters by his side. He succumbed to pulmonary fibrosis after a long and determined battle. "Johnny" Beasley was born to Anna and John C. Beasley on December 7, 1942. He was raised in Beeville and earned his diploma from A.C. Jones High School. Like his mother, and his granddaughter, he attended Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. He went on to earn his juris doctor from St. Mary's University Law School in San Antonio, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1971. Johnny returned to Beeville to join his father, John C. Beasley, in the practice of law with the firm Beasley & Beasley. His spirit of community service led him to attain the position of assistant city attorney for the City of Beeville. He later became a member of the Beeville Independent School District school board, a position he held for many years. In 1983, with the help of friend Dick Horton, Johnny followed his keen understanding of geology and his entrepreneurial spirit and transitioned to forming The Welhausen Operating Company, named for his mother, Anna Welhausen Beasley. Assisting him throughout were two consummate professionals, Carolyn Mick and Kay Walker. All his life, Johnny showed enormous passion for the pursuits he embraced, striving for success - if not perfection - in all he did. Of particular note are achievements in golf, including winning the Beeville Country Club Men's Club Championship in 1995, and the club's Men's Invitational in 1998. He dearly loved golf and played often, forming and enriching numerous friendships along the way. He learned the art of gunsmithing from Byron Dugat and other notable gunsmiths, and crafted a number of special firearms. There was little - or perhaps nothing - he didn't know about practically every caliber, bullet, gauge, ballistics, velocity, and any and all other details and nuances of firearms and ammunition. He was a constant student of this and all of his other passions; what he knew, he readily taught, and what he didn't know, he readily learned. Probably his most special passion was for native South Texas white-tailed deer, particularly those inhabiting the beloved family ranch in Webb County. He spent practically every single hunting season of his life exploring "the ranch", learning the habits of the deer living there and striving to develop the best and healthiest deer herd possible. He greatly enjoyed having his family and friends gather together at the places he loved; providing these spaces for others gave him much joy. In that, as in so many other ways, he was extraordinarily generous. Johnny will be remembered for inspiring others through wise counsel, and living his life with enormous integrity. We love him, we will miss him, and we will strive to carry his indomitable spirit forward. Having departed and preparing a place for John in Heaven are his parents, Anna and John C. Beasley, and his wife Jean Ann Albrecht Beasley. Johnny is survived by his former wife, Bernadine "Bernie" Beasley of Beeville; daughter Beverly Beasley of Boerne, daughter Shannon (Brent) Juilleret of Aransas Pass, sisters Bunky Streitman of Houston and Cissy Beasley of Beeville; and brothers Bob, Tom (Karole), and Dick, all of Beeville. He is also loved and cherished by his grandchildren, Noor and Adam Majdi, and nephews David, Scott and John Streitman, and Andrew Beasley, as well as nieces Laurie Streitman, Julie Martisek, Amy Ressmann, Kaitlyn Beasley and Laura Ottensman, and special companion Barbara McCullen. Pallbearers will be Dick Beasley, Brent Juilleret, Adam Majdi, Keven Currie, Andrew Beasley, Jeffery McCullen, Danny Dobson, and Paul Amason. Honorary pallbearers include Tom Beasley, Jimmy Jackson, Bob Beasley, George Brin, Gary Amason, Nick Ottensman, and Logan Currie. Special gratitude is extended to sister-in-law Dr. Karole Beasley, Jimmy "JJ" Jackson, Thelma Sarmiento, Bernie Beasley, Barbara McCullen, Danny Dobson and "Mr. B's" healthcare team for their loving care. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 29 at Glenwood Cemetery in Beeville with Pastor Taylor officiating. The family will receive visitors following the service at the home of John Beasley in Beeville. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the South Texas Children's home at P.O. Box 1210, Beeville, TX 78104 or http://www.stchm.org.
