John Guy "Sonny" James, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in George West on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was 93 years old.
Sonny was born on April 11, 1924, in Beeville, Texas, to John and Angeline (Goodwin) James. He married his sweetheart, Mildred Ginn, on March 30, 1944, in Duval County. They were blessed with 73 years of marriage. Sonny was a cattle rancher on his beloved ranch, his "happy place," and a roughneck in the South Texas oilfields, where he was known as a prankster and practical jokester.
Sonny and Mildred had one daughter, Pamela James Woodmansee of George West, and was a proud Papa to his only granddaughter, D'Anna Woodmansee (Chris) Wallace of San Antonio.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edgar James and Jim James; sister, Bill James Kellner; and son-in-law, Steve Woodmansee.
Sonny is survived by his wife, daughter, granddaughter and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lamar James, Willie James, Jimmy James, Bob Johnson, Joseph Shelton and Chris Wallace.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nubbin Ginn, Rodney Ginn, Mark Ginn, John Ginn, Jr., Will Kendall, Charlie Stroleny and Bill Burris.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at Galloway & Sons Chapel in George West.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at First Baptist Church in George West. Interment will follow at George West Cemetery.
