Johnny Lee Hester Sr., 80, of Beeville, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011. Mr. Hester was born April 17, 1930, in Clareville to Ruby Ford and Buster Hester. He married Doris Jean Perkins in Beeville on March 14, 1953, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was retired from Trunkline Gas Company. He ewas a U.S. Army Ranger and served his country during the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was an active member of the Beeville Masonic Lodge #261, Al Amin Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite of Freemasonary, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas, Cashan Order of Supreme Council M.O.V.P.E.R. and Beeville Chapter-Eastern Star #432. Survivors include his wife, Doris Jean Hester of Beeville; two sons, Johnny Lee (Chris) Hester Jr. of LaFayette, La., and John David Hester of Keenesaw, Ga.; a daughter, Patricia Diane Smith of Houston; six grandchildren, Brooke Elizabeth Strait, Amy Catherine Hester, Chad Alan Guidry, Austin Hester, Evan Hester and Adrian Hester; three great-grandchildren, Cooper Strait, Brady Hester and Tristan Guidry; and a sister, Ruby Joyce Murrell of Tuleta. Visitation was held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Galloway & Sons chapel. The Eastern Star service was held there that evening at 7 o'clock. A graveside service was held at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beeville Chapter Catherine Athey Eastern Star Scholarship Fund for Coastal Bend College or Patriot Paws to train dogs for disabled veterans.
