Jord LaVern "Hoppy" Hoffman November 26, 1921 - February 17, 2012 Hoppy Hoffman passed from this earth on February 17, 2012. Jord Lavern "Hoppy" was born November 26, 1921, on a farm out of Eddy, Okla. He was the only child of Art and Mattie Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Jean Howard Hoffman, and son-in-law, Tommy Burris. Survivors include Joye Burris of Eagle Pass, Donna Bernsen (David) of Spring, Joe Hoffman of Yoakum, and Karen Knowlton (Chuck) of Beeville. Grandchildren are Brian (Lydia) Burris, Brett (Stefani) Burris, Kim (Jim) Sharp, Kelly (Matthew) Simon, A.J. (Annie) Hoffman, Heather (Max) Collins, Melanie Hoffman, Ryan Hoffman, Chadwick (Erin) Knowlton, Randi (Joshua) Cole, Kelsey Knowlton, and Taylor Knowlton. He had twelve great-grandchildren. The family is grateful for Pat Moreno who has been Hoppy's devoted caregiver for the past 13 years. We are also thankful for his other caregivers: Leonora Garcia and Diana Taylor. He went to school in Oklahoma City and graduated high school in 1935. He worked for REA for two years and came to Grapeland, where his parents moved. He attended Texas A&M University, but after one semester, the war broke out. He joined the Air Force but ended up in the Army. He trained troops in California for two years before going to the South Pacific. His unit was one of the units that took the Philippines back. While he was stationed in California, he married Jean Howard in 1943. He was discharged in January 1946. He worked for Amoco Production and retired after thirty-five years in Beeville, TX. Hoppy and Jean spent their retirement traveling to many places, working in their wood shop, and enjoying all their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 19th, at 2:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry McRorey officiating. Entombment followed Tuesday, February 21st, at 9 a.m. at Beeville Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Brian Burris, Brett Burris, Jim Sharp, Matthew Simon, A.J.
