Joseph Thornton, Sr.

Joseph Bates Thornton Sr., 67, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017, while at home after many years of poor health.

Mr. Thornton was born June 13, 1950, in Beeville. He graduated from A.C. Jones High School in 1969 and attended Bee County College where he received a degree in drafting and design. He was involved in various organizations throughout his life including his church, political parties and livestock activities. He also enjoyed regaling anyone who would listen with stories of Bee County, the Bible and country living.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Thornton Jr.; parents, Eunice and J.W. Thornton; and a brother, Jerard Thornton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Thornton; daughter, Catherine Thornton; and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church.
