Joseph Watson

J.W. "Chubby" Watson, 94, of Skidmore, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012. Mr. Watson was born July 25, 1918, in Flour Bluff to Charles D. and Dona Welborn Watson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star, Gold Star and a Purple Heart. He served as a gunnery sergeant on the battleship USS Tennessee. He was a rancher and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Skidmore and the Masonic Lodge #1012 in Sinton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Watson; second wife, Helen Watson; and a sister, Pauline Stephens. Survivors include his stepsons, Allen (Peggy) Krause of Houston and Larry (Judy) Krause of Montana; a niece, Dona Kilgore of Kerrville; and a nephew, Bruce Stephens of Corpus Christi. Visitation was held Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service was conducted there following visitation at 10 o'clock with Rev. Harold Onwiler officiating. Burial followed in Sinton Cemetery. Galloway & Sons Funeral Home
