Long time Waco resident, Joyce Choate Crow, born January 2, 1916, died March 30, 2016. Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Barney M. Crow, and by their son, David Crow. Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents, L. B. Choate and Alva Maley Choate, and her brothers, Glenn A. Choate, H. L. Choate and M. G. Choate. Joyce is survived by her former daughter-in-law, Betty Avery and Betty's daughters, Brit and Tiffany. Joyce is also survived by her former sister-in-law, Hilda Choate Doreck and her nieces and nephews Harold J. Choate (Diane), Nita C. Carson (Neal), Byron D. Choate (Nancy), Jerry A. Choate, Karen C. Stiltner, G. Wayne Choate and Rocky L. Choate (Barbara) and numerous, great and great-great nieces and great and great-great nephews and friends. Joyce was born in Papalote, Texas and grew up in South Texas. She graduated from Beeville High School and attended Mary Hardin-Baylor College in Belton, Texas, and Southwest Texas State Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, prior to teaching public school in Swinney Switch, Texas, and before her marriage to her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Barney. Joyce and Barney moved countless times during their marriage because of his life-long career as a geologist for Humble Oil, later Exxon Corporation. Upon his retirement in 1972, they chose Waco for their permanent home, having lived there during the 1950's and having very fond memories of their time in Waco. Joyce was a devoted member and supporter of the First Baptist Church of Waco for many years, which she regularly attended and where she taught Sunday School. Joyce cherished her faith in God and enjoyed the community of friends that she made at First Baptist Church of Waco and other Baptist churches that she and Barney attended in Waco. Joyce will be interned alongside her beloved husband and son in the Evergreen Cemetery, Skidmore, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas.
