Lee Meyer passed away peacefully on July 22, 2019. He was born on March 30, 1930, to John Otto and Wanda Meyer in Ganado, Texas. After graduating from Angleton High School, Lee served in the United States Air Force while stationed in Guam during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Beeville in 1955 where he owned and operated Meyer Motor Parts for many years. He was known for his willingness to help anyone, regardless of time of day or night.
As a devoted community supporter, Lee served as a member of the Beeville Volunteer Fire Department for over forty years. He was a trustee of the Beeville Independent School District, a member of the Kiwanis Club and of the Beeville Chamber of Commerce. He was a supporter of various automotive programs at the high school and local junior college and served as a director of the Automotive Wholesalers of Texas.
One of his favorite hobbies was flying his bright yellow 1947 J-3 Piper Cub. He began taking flying lessons in 1960, but it was 22 years later, after raising a family, that he purchased his two-seater J-3. He took to the skies over South Texas as often as possible.
Lee married Imogene Stevenson in 1977. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend whose kindness and gentleness was passed on to everyone he encountered.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 33 years, Imogene.
He is survived by his five children, Mark Meyer (Joyce), Marvin Meyer (Byrona), Curtis Stevenson (Annette), David Stevenson and Debbie Maisel (Gary). He was loved dearly and known as Grandpa Lee to his 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Mary Dettman, Mark and Marvin’s mother.
The family wishes to thank Belinda Munoz for her love and care for over 36 years. They also would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Frank Calica for his friendship and care of Lee and acknowledge the staff at the Frank M. Tejeda State Veterans Home in Floresville where he was a resident the last several years.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home Chapel.
The funeral service will be conducted there at 2:30 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2019, with Rev. Greg Traylor officiating. Burial will be held at Beeville Memorial Park.
