Leighton Griffith, Jr.

Leighton Coy Griffith Jr., 78, of George West, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. Mr. Griffith was born Feb. 15, 1936, in George West to Leighton Coy Sr. and Dollie (Lynn) Griffith. After graduating from George West High School, he moved to Port Lavaca, where he began a successful 41-year career with Union Carbide. After his retirement, he returned to George West, where he lived surrounded by his family until the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jane (Williams); and three sisters, Hazel, Helen and Joyce. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; daughters, Cheryl (Paul) Schmidt and Glenda (Edward) Blinka; and son, Kavin (Dale Ann) Griffith; stepdaughters, Jeanne Burge, Leeann (Mike) Crawford and Kay Campbell; grandchildren, Brad Schmidt, Justin Schmidt, Kellie Poole, Ashley Wood, Tyler Blinka, Jonathan Griffith, Kayla Griffith and Hailey Griffith, Everett Wood, Josh Troell, Natasha Martin, Jo Lee Storey, Maggie Campbell and Tatiana Scott; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Galloway & Sons Funeral Home chapel. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at Glenwood Cemetery.
